How To Become A U.S. Citizen With Green Card Marriages

Green Card Marriages

Not all that long ago, it was very easy to become a United States citizen simply by marrying someone who was already a citizen.  Those times have really past, however, as new regulations have made it difficult to be able to become a citizen of the United States simply through marriage.  That doesn't mean that it is impossible, however, as many people are able to get married and to obtain citizenship into the United States by filling out the proper forms.  The trouble is, those forms are often difficult to fill out and to know where to submit to, so often these green card marriages are in need of some legal advice right from the start.

Green card marriages are named as such because of the fact that one or both of the individuals in the marriage is not a citizen of the United States but carries a green card.  It may also be that one of the persons in the marriage is not a citizen and would like to obtain a green card.  In either case, it is really a matter of just filling out the proper forms and making sure that you have all of your affairs in order.  As an example of this, you would not want to get married, simply for the reason of obtaining citizenship.  If you are in this type of a relationship, not only you but also your spouse that is a citizen may be punished in one way or another.

There is another thing that you should know about green card marriages.  There are different papers that you have to fill out depending on whether you are married or engaged.  If you are engaged, you need to fill out a form that is called the K-1 form that will help you to be able to gain citizenship upon marriage. You also need to know about fiance visas and fiance visa applications. If you are already married to someone that is not a citizen of the United States, they may have to go through more rigorous program in order to become a naturalized citizen.Another thing that you might want to keep in mind is whether you are going to move into the United States and then get married.  If this is the case, you may also how to fill out the appropriate forms in order to bring your fiancee that is not a citizen of the United States.  Once this takes place, and you enter the United States together, you will have to make sure that you are married within 90 days of that date.Even though Green card marriages are not as easy as they used to be, they can still work very well to help one of the individuals to gain citizenship into the country.  Provided you have not simply gotten married in order to gain the citizenship, you will be able to fill out the proper forms and, with the help of a good spouse visa attorney, smoothly go through the process in order to become a citizen of the United States.
